The Tombstone Courthouse is a walk back into history all by itself. Thanks to the local Historic Preservation Society, the courthouse is now basically a museum. It houses many different artifacts from Tombstone's past. It does not, however, talk of its notorious citizens like Wyatt Earp or Doc Holiday other than to give it credit on a wall dedicated to the O.K. Corral gunfight.
The courtroom was large and everything was made of wood. It didn't seem to appear as cold and callous as our courtrooms of today. It seemed inviting, but of course, there had not been a trial in this courthouse for many, many years. The edge seemed to have faded. The "meanness" has dissipated. It was really gorgeous to look at and the atmosphere was not what one would expect from a courthouse that would try a prisoner and yet, hang many just outside the windows.
The feelings emanating from the courthouse were not feelings of a place where anger and hatred evolved but were very peaceful and interesting. The only possibility of paranormal activity came from the long, flowing staircase. We were told upon our entry that this was probably the only haunted place, that although employees had "felt" things such as the feeling that they were not alone, it was on this staircase that the employees had seen someone walking up or down. It was never clear exactly who it was, just that it had happened.
In the picture below, you will see a possible orb on the staircase. Is this the lonely soul that is seen walking up or down the staircase in this extremely large building?
Our trip to Tombstone would not have been complete had we not done the tourist thing and this was a part of that trip. It was a great trip into the past and should not be missed if you are traveling to visit.
